Eggs Frying In A Skillet

She had eggs frying in a skillet when he left for work. “Well at least she’s up,” he thought to himself. Looking for work was beginning to wear on her as she cascades between depression and nonsensical coping practices. She assigns herself menial tasks and chores around the house as she awaits nothing but, “ Thank you for your application, but I regret to inform you…” emails from potential employers. He tells her not to worry, something will come along soon. But he knows she is riddled with anxiety and guilt for not carrying her part of the load. He tries to stay confident and strong for her when he sees her sobbing over inconsequential circumstances or random lyrics to songs. “Anything these days that will get her out of bed is a plus,” he thought as he drove to work. Then he reflected on the eggs frying in a skillet and wondered if she had flipped them without cracking the yolks.
