Angel's Wings

The sun shined as rain gently sprinkled from the sky. Students quickly rose from their desks and excitedly made their exit back to freedom from lecture.

Off to the Stevenson Coffee House they went for a quick caffeine pick-me up as she rode her bike back down the hill through the light showers. The fresh cool air would wake her just as well as a cup of java.

Back home she read her notes from class while sipping a warm freshly brewed cup of coffee. Her boyfriend eventually awoke to the aroma of Colombian brew and rose from their warm air mattress.

As he sauntered through the living room to the kitchen in search of a warm cup of coffee he muttered sleepily, “How was class?”

Before she could answer, her phone suddenly rang.

“Hello?”

Her Aunt’s voice on the other end sounded shaky, but remained pragmatic as always.

“I just wanted to let you know that you’re Grandfather passed away a few minutes ago.”

Minutes later after hanging up the phone she sat silently looking out into the backyard. Watching the rain lightly sprinkle upon the wild green grass, a rainbow appeared in the sky.

Her boyfriend sat down on the couch next to her while she cried throughout the afternoon.

Eventually they both decided that a few cool Buds would assuage the warm tears.

Sip after sip, and beer after beer, they decided it would be best to get out and enjoy the fresh air under a waning crescent moon.

The Halloween parade on Pacific was the place to be, so why not cruise out and enjoy the festivities.

They hopped on their bikes and cruised into the darkness . They road down Ocean and across the San Lorenzo Bridge until they found themselves on Pacific.

The energy of the massive drunk roaring crowd made everyone cheer with excitement.

The Pope walked by waving his hands at the crowd while Jesus followed carrying his cross  and a tall lanky kid with angel’s wings clumsily followed behind.

She found a seat as her boyfriend stood and watched the scantily dressed French maids follow the Pope’s procession. And all the while they were watching the Halloween celebration, there police and helicopters, overdoses and stabbings.

Nevertheless, she sat still on the bench watching the madness with a smile on her face and tears in her eyes.
