Skyline

Skyline
I live in a rectangular container. It contains me well. I have a window. I look out sometimes. Most times I just see grey. Some days, I can see the skyline of what I think is still Los Angeles and the mountains beyond.
At times I can hear what I think is a bird’s whistle or a crow cawing. I think there might be squirrels out there, but I can’t be sure. I definitely know the sounds of sirens because I hear so many everyday. And helicopters, tractor trailer trucks, loud cars and motorcycles.
I know when a train is coming because not only can I hear the conductor honking his horn, but my container shakes quite a bit.
I can hear people’s voices. Sometimes they’re laughing, sometimes they’re yelling. And sometimes at night when it happens to be quiet for a few minutes, I can hear what sounds like flowing water. It’s a sea of some kind in the distance, but there is no moving water that I know of in that direction. It just never stops, it’s always there.
Most days I just keep my window shut and covered. The stench coming from the outside is really bad for my container. I know it has nothing to do with me because it’s all from the outside. I’m different from everyone else around me here and that is why I stay in my container.
I keep that window shut tight not only because of the odors from the outside, but because if I wanted to get an honest glimpse of the world, I just look into the screen of my many devices.
My devices send me reminders all the time. They don’t want me to miss anything. In fact, they always send me stuff, like ideas that detail ideas I already had on my own without anyone telling me.
Every now and then I happen to come across stuff that drives me crazy. I always take as much time as possible to be sure to respond to those posts. I only tell the truth. I know wrong from right and what is good for myself. And in that way, I am pretty sure I know what’s right for everyone else too. It’s easy to understand.
Even if I haven’t researched the topic, I always still offer my opinions because I understand people. People out there need to be more tough about things they want. That’s why I have all the things that I do.
And it’s not just luck, I deserve greatness, which is why I have made so many good friends through these screens. My ideas are my own and people are simply drawn to it. I’m glad to say that I am not influenced by any one thing in the world because I am not a conformist. I look deep inside myself for the evidence and through my thought process, I know that I come to valid conclusions. It’s science.
Sure I have never met any of my friends, but we’re connected all the time. It’s such a great reminder of the world out there that we have managed to shrink, so we don’t ever have to be lonely. And that’s why I never have to go outside. I have everything I need inside my container.
The food delivery part is the best. It gets delivered to me at the same times morning, day and night. The same funny looking drone drops the manufactured frozen meals off at my doorstep. It’s the funniest thing too that every time just before my container door bell rings, my stomach starts to growl and I tend to salivate. It’s really the craziest thing. Like how does my stomach know?
